A louder track usually sounds better, so matching the loudness gives a fair comparison. Switching keeps your place in the song.

How it works
- Loudness is measured in LUFS, the way streaming services do it, with the true peak and loudness range.
- Tone balance splits the sound into eight bands and shows how the energy is shared between them, so a quiet track and a loud one can be compared fairly.
- Stereo width compares the side signal with the middle signal. The crest factor is the gap between the peaks and the average level, a simple measure of how compressed the track is.
- A reference is a guide, not a target. Different styles balance their low end and brightness differently, so use the advice as a starting point and trust your ears.
